Archaeological route to ancient cities of Turkey

Turkey is a country full of ancient mysteries and historical monuments. Each of these cities tells its own unique story, preserving traces of former civilizations.

Ephesus: Sanctuary of Artemis and center of ancient culture

Ephesus was founded in the 10th century BC and flourished as a major commercial and religious center. Artemis, the goddess of hunting and fertility, was worshipped here. Attractions: The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Library of Celsus, containing 12,000 scrolls, symbolizes the power of knowledge. The amphitheater, with a capacity of 25,000 spectators, is astonishing in its scale.

Troy: Homer's City of Legends

Troy is known from Homer's Iliad as the site of the famous siege. Heinrich Schliemann's nineteenth-century archaeological excavations uncovered strong walls, towers and ruins confirming the existence of this legendary city.

Scholars are still studying whether Homer's descriptions match real events.

Cappadocia: A world of underground labyrinths and rock monasteries

Entire underground cities, such as Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, have been carved into the soft volcanic rocks of Cappadocia. These cities served as a refuge for the first Christians hiding from persecution. The labyrinths were so elaborate that they housed thousands of people and included living quarters, temples and ventilation shafts.

Pergamum: Home of the ancient library and the Altar of Zeus

Pergamum, rivaling Alexandria, was known for one of the largest libraries in the ancient world.

It was home to the famous Altar of Zeus, dedicated to the victory over the Galatians. Archaeologists continue to find new artifacts that add to the picture of life in this city.

Hierapolis: Ancient thermal spring resort

Hierapolis was founded in the 2nd century BC as a healing center thanks to its hot springs. Attractions: Pamukkale, white travertine terraces created by mineral water. Cleopatra's Pool, where, according to legend, the queen bathed. Necropolises including ancient sarcophagi and tombs from the Roman era.

These ancient cities not only show the grandeur of ancient architecture and culture, but also open a window into the history of great civilizations. Turkey invites you to touch this history by offering a journey that will leave an unforgettable impression.
