How to extend the residence permit of Turkey for the owner of real estate?


In Turkey, you are allowed to extend your residence permit an unlimited number of times and the extension procedure is similar to the procedure of applying for a residence permit.


However, you must remember that the application for extension must be submitted 60 days before the expiration of the residence permit.


Beginning April 15, 2024, a National Electronic Notification Address (UETS) is requested to apply for a residence permit renewal. Please be sure to attach the UETS form to your application on the day of your interview.


So, to apply for renewal:


1️⃣ Open the website of the Turkish Migration Service General Directorate and upload the application form there. The system itself will give you an interview date (rendezvous) and an immigration office to submit your documents within about 2 weeks.

2️⃣ Prepare a package of documents to take with you to the Migration Service.

The list of documents is the same as it was during the period of applying for a residence permit, but here you also attach a valid residence permit card and its copy.


So, you should have for the interview:

➡️ a printed application form;

➡️ a copy of your passport with a notarized translation;

➡️ documents confirming the place of residence (purchase contract, certificate of ownership (TAPU), receipts for payment of utilities);

➡️ 4 color biometric photos;

➡️ health insurance;

➡️ receipt for payment of the state duty.

If the property owner does not live alone, but with a family, and they also want to obtain or extend residence permit, then the above documents are also accompanied by translated and notarized documents on kinship:


3️⃣ To undergo an interview, which lasts up to half an hour and is conducted in Turkish or English by migration officials.

4️⃣ Wait for the approval of the application, the status of which should be monitored on the website of the Turkish Migration Service, which also has a version in Russian.


As soon as the employees check all the documents and make sure that all the information corresponds to the submitted information, you will receive an SMS-notification about the extension of residence permit. Then the residence permit card (ikamet) is sent to the residence address specified in the application.
