Education in Turkey

Turkey offers different educational opportunities for locals and international students.

Education in Turkey starts with kindergartens, which accept children between the ages of 3 and 6. Next, 1 year of preparatory class is allocated before school. General education is divided into primary (4 years), secondary (4 years) and high school (4 years), which in Turkey is called college. Before graduation, students take exams in the form of a test system similar to the USE in Russia.

Private schools in Turkey are usually more popular than public schools due to the quality of education and individual approach to children. However, they are very expensive - prices have risen considerably over the last couple of years. In elementary school the cost for a year of education starts from 150 thousand liras (4400 dollars). This does not include additional costs for textbooks, school uniforms, meals, and transfers. But successful students who can not afford expensive education, schools provide discounts or sometimes fully pay tuition. In addition to Turkish schools, there are also international schools where education is usually in English. For example, Istanbul International School, LWIS, British International School, Keystone.

In Turkey there are many universities with high quality education, among which there are both public and private universities. Among the most prestigious ones in Istanbul are Sabanci University (SU) and Koç University (KU), which are among the top ten in Turkey. The cost of education in such universities starts from 30 thousand dollars a year. But you can qualify for educational institutions in other cities, where studies are cheaper.

After school exams, the student gets into the rating of students, formed by the number of points scored. The higher the place in the rating, the more chances to enter a university, sometimes even for free places.
