Health care and health insurance in Turkey. Part 2

Turkey is a country with a well-developed health care system. According to the results of the global study Health Care Index by Country 2024, Turkey's medicine is included in the list of leading countries, this year ranking 25th, ahead of the UAE, Canada, Sweden and others.

Health care in Turkey has been a state priority for several decades. In addition to a large number of private clinics, there is a developed network of state and university medical institutions. It is noteworthy that there are many clinics with JCI accreditation in the country. This accreditation is an important indicator for medical tourism, which confirms that the hospital has organized treatment and patient safety at a high level.

Turkey has a system of compulsory medical insurance for residents of the country. After living in Turkey for a year, foreigners with residence permit can also take out state insurance SGK (Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu). This policy is issued for a family and covers up to 100% of the cost of treatment in public hospitals and up to 80% - in private hospitals, as well as part of the cost of medicines required for treatment.

The insurance also covers ophthalmologic and dental services, treatment of cardiologic and oncologic diseases, if they have developed after SGK. If you need urgent hospitalization or compulsory inpatient treatment and there are no places in state clinics, SGK insurance will refer you to a private clinic without additional fees.
